About Us

Novel Selling Secrets is a partnership between international bestselling author Jessica Brody, and marketing expert Charles Fink (bio’s below). We started Novel Selling Secrets to provide quality information to help authors navigate the challenges of the modern publishing industry.

With new technologies constantly expanding the options for authors to publish, promote and distribute their work, an already complicated marketplace is becoming vastly more confusing – especially for a first-time author.  Our goal is to cut through the confusion with clear, easy-to-understand, actionable information that allows authors to chart a clear course to their goals.

Jessica Brody

Jessica Brody knew from a young age that she wanted to be a writer. She started self “publishing” her own bookswhen she was seven years old, binding the pages together with cardboard, wallpaper samples and electrical tape.

After graduating from Smith College in 2001 where she double majored in Economics and French and minored in Japanese, Jessica later went on to work for MGM Studios as a Manager of Acquisitions and Business Development. In May of 2005, Jessica quit her job to follow her dream of becoming a published author.

In four short years , Jessica has sold five novels (two adult novels to St. Martin’s Press and three young adult novels to Farrar, Straus, Giroux.) The Fidelity Files, her debut, released in stores (in real binding) in June of 2008, the follow-up, Love Under Cover, November 2009 and The Karma Club, Jessica’s debut young adult novel released in April of 2010 with her next YA release, My Life Undecided slated for June 2011.

Jessica recently sold five more young adult titles to her publisher, Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. 52 Reasons to Hate My Father (which was recently optioned for film) will be out in Spring 2012 and Unremembered, (also optioned for film), the first book in a new sci-fi series, will be released in Fall 2012.

Jessica’s books are published in over ten foreign countries including the UK, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Russia, Brazil, China, Portugal, Israel, and Taiwan.

Jessica now works full time as a writer and producer. She currently splits her time between Los Angeles and Colorado.

Charlie Fink

Charlie holds an MBA specialized in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and degree in Marketing from Baylor University. After business school, Charlie went to work in what he considered the jackpot for CRM: the gaming and hospitality industry in Las Vegas. Charlie had the opportunity to work with data warehouses, large scale email marketing, direct mail, digital variable printing, high-end event planning, and proprietary CRM systems that drive some of the most impressive loyalty programs in the world.

After four years in Vegas, Charlie moved to Los Angeles to leverage his CRM expertise in the film & television industry. Here, he had the opportunity to work with CRM in a broad media and post-production company. In addition to the CRM responsibilities, Charlie broadened his experience into finance, helping tie CRM sales forecasts to annual budgets, quarterly forecasts and the occasional reorganization plan.

Currently, Charlie is a partner in Novel Ventures, parent company of NovelSellingSecrets.com, FreeBookFriday.com, and continuing to provide CRM consulting through his separate company, Intersection 3 Consulting.
